Stairlifts: common questions answered

At UK Stairlifts, we’ve been in the residential stair-lifts business for many years, and there are several questions that new stairlift users and potential users ask over and over again.

Where’s the best place to buy my stairlift?
Generally, it’s best to go to an independent UK supplier selling a range of stairlifts. That way, you’ll get impartial advice.

Are the lifts easy to use?
The hardest part is getting on and off the stair lift. But all the stairlifts we sell have swivel seats that lock into place to make dismounting safe once you reach the top of the stairs. Lifts can also be operated by the user or remotely.

Will it take long to install the stairlift?
At UK Stairlifts, we do as much away from your relative’s house as we can, once we’ve taken measurements on our site survey, ensuring that their stairlift is ready to be installed. We can install a straight lift in one or two hours and a curved stair-lift in no more than half a day, depending on your circumstances. And we always tidy up after ourselves – promise.

Will other people in the house be able to use the stairs?
Of course. When we assess the house, we take this into account. The seat, arms and footrest of the stair lift fold away, enabling people to use the stairs.

Are stairlifts quiet?
Very quiet. You can use our residential stairlifts at night without waking anyone.

What if the lift is upstairs and I am downstairs?
You’ll get two remote controls – one for upstairs and one for downstairs. Just summon the lift when you’re ready.

Are the lifts safe?
Yes, they all come with seatbelts and offer a very smooth ride, slowing down on the bends. At the top, the chair swivels 90 degrees and locks into place. Also, if something is in the path of the stair lift, the safety edges automatically stop the stairlift.
