Straight stair lift prices are generally lower than curved or wheelchair stair lifts.  The straight rails that the lifts run on are less complex to construct and install and this helps keeps prices down.  Price does vary model to model depending on the features included and if you purchase a reconditioned stair lift (a stair lift that has been used before), then prices can be brought down further.

Curved stair lifts

Curved stair lift prices are higher than straight versions because each rail needs to be produced to the exact specifications of each staircase.  A ‘one size fits all’ policy is just not possible as the rail needs to hug the twists and turns of the stairs. 

This tailored manufacture raises the basic stair lift price and different models vary in price depending on features and finish.  It is possible is purchase a reconditioned curved stair lift and this helps to reduce costs.  The rail still needs to be produced specifically for your stairs but the rest of the lift is a refurbished model.
